For lack of tourists, the island of Jersey will accept French identity cards

The island of Jersey is a British island about 80 km off the French coast, in the English Channel. It is considered a tax haven, making it a popular location for investors and businesses. It is also known for its beaches, spectacular scenery and numerous historic sites.

Since the Brexittourist traffic between France and the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, has dropped considerably due to the requirement for French nationals to have a passport for a one-day visit. The company Manche Iles Express even talks of a lower filling of boats up to 80% from its French points at Granville and Barneville-Carteret.

In an attempt to remedy this decline, the government of l'รฎle aux Fleurs announced a pilot scheme to allow French nationals to enter Jersey using their identity card. Testing begins on April 22.

However, a passport will still be required for travel to the neighboring island of Guernsey.
