The European Union reminds us of the reflexes we need to have when traveling

Going on a trip is one of this world's great distractions. However, to avoid being surprised by worries that can get in the way, you need to prepare your trip well beforehand. Here's what you need to know about traveling to the European Union, as indicated in the institution's PDF brochure.

Get a passport

No passport, no trip! Before you fly to wherever you want to go in the EU, a passport is required. To do this, start applying for your passport several months before your flight date. Because however simple the process of obtaining a passport may be, bureaucratic issues mean that everything takes time. So do it in advance.

There are many ways to obtain an EU passport, but the most efficient is to go through a citizenship by investment program. With this program, you obtain a residence permit, then apply for permanent residence and EU citizenship. If you don't want to live in a country for a long time just to become naturalized, the citizenship-by-investment programs offered by some European jurisdictions are your quick answer.

If you already have a passport, check the expiry date ! Even with a valid passport, most countries refuse entry if it is due to expire within three to six months of travel.

Get all the visas you need

Here are the additional details you need to know.

  • Specificities in a Visa-accessible country

Visa requirements vary from country to country, but one thing is certain: the visa process is tedious and time-consuming. Do some research and find out if your destination country requires a visa. If so, what type of visa would you need? Sixty percent of the world's countries require visas for any length of stay. In the European Union, with the exception of Croatia, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania, all countries require a visa to enter their territory.

  • Specific features of a country with visa-free access

For visa-free countries, the European Union will launch the european travel authorization and information system (ETIAS) in November 2023. Third-country nationals who are not visa-exempt need a Schengen visa to enter the European area.

For visit countries outside the EUIn order to enter the United Kingdom, it is necessary to contact an embassy. For example, to enter the UK, foreign nationals must meet the respective entry requirements.

Don't forget your vaccinations

After taking into account the increase in vaccination rates and concluding that strict travel measures no longer play a significant role in stopping the spread of COVID-19, the countries of the European Union and the Schengen area have decided to relax their entry rules. EU states have also agreed to lift a temporary restriction on non-essential travel for people who have recovered from COVID-19. This is valid for 180 days prior to travel to the EU.

For people vaccinated with a WHO-approved vaccine, EU countries may require a negative PCR test to be carried out no earlier than 72 hours before departure.
