Fiji's Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Yogesh Karan, has asked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to help the country conclude a visa-free agreement with Schengen countries for its nationals, by intervening within the European Union. Karaan's request was made last week in New York on the sidelines of the UN meetings.
According to the Fijian government, the issue of visas has been pending for some time, and she is an obstacle: “The Permanent Secretary has requested Mr. Scholz's intervention within the EU to help us in our discussions on visa-free entry into the Schengen area. This issue has been pending for some time and is an obstacle for Fijian athletes, companies and Fijians in general to access business, sporting and learning opportunities in Germany and Europe.", wrote the Fijian government on its Facebook account.
Thus, it was suggested that by entering into an agreement, Fijian citizens would be able to participate in various activities without having to worry about visas and other requirements.
