Cape Verde's borders have been open again since Monday October 12. The resumption of international flights in the archipelago will be gradual, confirmed the Minister of Tourism and Transport, Carlos Santos.
Commercial air and sea passenger traffic to and from Cape Verde is now operational.
A negative PCR test result will be required before boarding. The country is stepping up virus screening on its main islands. The dedicated treatment centers in Sal and Boa Vista have received international certification for this purpose.
As a reminder, tourism accounts for around 25% of Cape Verde's GDP and guarantees a considerable number of jobs. However, the Minister of Tourism hopes that the arrival of tourists will be gradual.
The reopening was long-awaited, since it was originally scheduled for July, then postponed until August.
