In turn, New Zealand will welcome back French travellers from summer 2022.

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern today announced the new program to reopen New Zealand, which will run from February to October 2022.

After 2 years of closure, the government is cautiously hoping for a gradual reopening:

1) From February 28, New Zealand citizens and residents fully vaccinated, as well as other eligible travelers (see current border parameters), will be able to enter New Zealand from Australia and self-isolate on arrival.

2) From March 14, it will be the turn of the next people, still fully vaccinated, to be able to enter New Zealand from anywhere in the world and self-insulate on arrival :

  • Skilled workers earning at least 1.5 times the median wage;
  • Travelers benefiting from the working vacation program;
  • Partners and dependent children of New Zealand citizens and residents, provided they meet the usual visa and vaccination requirements.

3) From April 13 the following fully vaccinated travellers should also be included:

  • Current offshore temporary visa holders with a valid visa who can still meet their visa requirements;
  • Up to 5,000 international students for semester 2.

Self-insulation on arrival will always be compulsory.

4) From July onwards (exact date to be announced) will be able to enter New Zealand with self-insulation on arrival:

  • All travelers from Australia;
  • Visitors from countries that do not require a visa (visa-exempt visitors holding a NZeTA);
  • Travelers arriving under accredited employer work visa categories.

5) From October 2022, all visa categories will reopenincluding visitor and student visas.

The self-isolation period for fully vaccinated travellers is of 10 days. This period could be reduced, particularly during stage 2, to 7 days.

What's more, on arrival at the airport, travelers will receive three rapid antigen tests :

  • one for use on day 0/1
  • one for use on day 5/6
  • an additional one if necessary.

⚠️ Anyone testing positive should have a PCR test at a community testing center or with a GP.

French and European travellers are exempt from New Zealand visa requirements but, as of October 1, 2019, must claim NZeTA electronic authorization for travel to New Zealand to stay or transit. This e-Visa is valid for 2 yearsor until expiry of the passport and allows you tomultiple stays of up to 90 daysduring its validity. VISAMUNDI can support you in obtaining the NZeTA.
