Obtaining a 2nd passport to travel: it's possible!

It is legal to use two different passports in the following situations: your passport is blocked at the embassy or you have a visa incompatibility.

When you need a visa for your trip, your passport is held for a few days/weeks by the embassy or consulate. During this waiting period, you will not be able to travel to destinations requiring a passport. This also applies to people who need several visas for a multi-country itinerary, as it is impossible for them to carry out two procedures at the same time.

Some countries, such as Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan and Syria, prohibit the entry of travelers whose passports contain an Israeli visa or an Israeli entry/exit stamp, as well as a Jordanian entry/exit stamp from a land border crossing between Jordan and Israel. These restrictions are known as "visa incompatibilities".

The procedure for obtaining a second passport is the same as for renewing an ordinary passport at the town hall. However, the application must be accompanied by a letter addressed to the Prefect, stating the reason for the request and, if possible, providing supporting evidence.
