Russia to introduce a new e-Visa from January 21, 2021

Since 2019, the Russian government has introduced an electronic visa for visiting three regions: Leningrad, Kaliningrad and the Far East. It is therefore currently not possible to visit several regions on the same visa.

Russia's State Duma passed a new bill last week, allowing new electronic visas to be issued throughout Russia from January 21, 2021. The aim is to boost tourism throughout the country.

The e-document will be issued from January 2021 as a single-entry visa, valid for 60 days with an authorized stay of up to 16 days for foreign citizens from 53 countries (Canadian, British and American passport holders are not yet eligible).

In such times of crisis, electronic visas are the way forward for countries wishing to boost their tourism sector. Applying for a traditional visa is a tedious and sometimes costly process.
