Egypt has been welcoming foreign tourists again since July 1! In fact, international flights from and to other countries have resumed.
To boost tourism, the country is focusing on two key areas:
- the construction of two new international airports, inaugurated in June: New Administrative Capital Airport and Sphinx Airport.
- the government has decided to abolish tourist visas until October 31, in order to facilitate formalities for travellers.
However, only three governorates are currently accessible: the Red Sea, South Sinai and Marsa Matrouh. Other tourist sites are also open, such as the Pyramids of Giza, since July 1, but with health safety measures in place. Public beaches, however, remain closed.
According to the World Tourism Organization, Egypt recorded 3.5 million international tourists in 2020, down 70% on the previous year, when the country welcomed 13.6 million visitors. Tourism revenues fell by 65% in 2020, from 13.03 billion USD in 2019 to 4.7 billion USD in 2020, according to the Central Bank of Egypt.
