Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. has asked his government to consider extending the e-Visa to nationalities still requiring a traditional visa, such as China and India.
The Philippines is striving to increase the number of international visitors by extending its e-Visa program to Asian countries, whereas only Taiwan is currently eligible. The Philippine e-Visa will be extended to include the Indian tourism market, as well as other Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
This program is designed to simplify the visa process for international tourists. According to officialOrganisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)1 million tourists visited the Philippines in 2020, down 76 % on 2019, when 8.2 million foreign tourists arrived, including 1.7 million from China. Nearly 4.8 million tourists are expected in 2023.
On average, each tourist spent around 1,635 euros, the most popular destinations being Boracay, Bohol, northern Palawan and the surrounding small islands.
