Good news! On Thursday October 22, the Indian government announced the immediate reinstatement of all conventional visas, with the exception of Tourist, Medical Tourist and e-visas. The announcement comes almost 8 months after the total closure of the country's borders following the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the proposal to reopen the country's borders was postponed on August 31, the Home Minister is paving the way for a potential return to normal. Foreign nationals will once again be authorized to travel to India in the following cases:
- Business
- Conference
- Medical (patient and companion)
- Studies
- Search
Remember that only consular visas are authorized, meaning that you'll need to go through the embassy or consulate to obtain a document accepted by the Indian authorities.
Although the tourist visa and e-Visa have not yet made a comeback, the restoration of all other visa categories is excellent news for the tourism sector.
