The Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, <strong>Sandiaga Uno<\/strong>recently confirmed that discussions are ongoing, and that a significant increase - potentially tripling current fees - could be on the cards.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Currently, a visa on arrival (or visitor's e-Visa) in Indonesia costs IDR 500,000 (<span class=\"currency-convertor\" data-amount=\"500000\" data-currency=\"IDR\">25 &#8364;<\/span>) and is valid for 30 days. This visa, <a href=\"\/en\/destinations\/indonesia\/\">widely available to travellers from 92 countries<\/a>can be extended once, for an additional fee, for a further 30 days. This makes it one of the most accessible visa-on-arrival programs in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Uno, while acknowledging rumors of a possible fee increase, stressed that any rate change would be aligned with that of other countries offering similar visa categories. He underlined the government's objective of<strong>encourage a \"<em>quality tourism<\/em>\u201c<\/strong> and reiterated the importance of all levels of government working together to achieve this goal.<\/p>\n<p>This discussion about increasing visa-on-arrival fees comes against the backdrop of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visamundi.co\/en\/blog\/lindonesia-officializes-end-of-visa-free-regime-for-159-nationalities\/\">Indonesia's recent abolition of its visa-free travel program for 159 countries<\/a>. From now on, only travellers from ASEAN nations will be able to travel without a visa. However, this legislative change was largely expected, as the program had been suspended since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This does not mean that Indonesia is closed to tourists.<\/strong>. On the contrary, when the borders reopened in February 2022, tourists were able to enter the country using the fee-based visa-on-arrival system. The formal abolition of visa-free travel is simply a formalization of what is already being implemented.<\/p>\n<p>For travelers to Bali and Indonesia in general, the e-visa remains the most appropriate choice for most vacationers and short-term travelers.
