Here's a look back at this major initiative.

A modern tool for Syrian consular services

Faced with a difficult situation, with years of conflict having had a major impact on its tourism sector, Syria has decided to modernize its consular services by introducing an electronic visa from May 1, 2024.

This decision follows several meetings held by various institutions such as the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Communication and Technology, the Syrian Telecommunications Company, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs. The main objective is to offer a simplified process for visa applicants and encourage international investment in the process.

The eVisa platform to simplify travel procedures

The main advantage of an e-visa is that it is easy to access and obtain a residence permit quickly. Thanks to the new evisa.sy (coming soon)Travelers will be able to submit their application and receive a travel authorization without physically visiting the Syrian embassy or consulate.

An important step towards boosting tourism in Syria

In the words of the Minister of Tourism Mohammad Rami Radwan MartiniThe introduction of an electronic visa represents a significant step forward in the face of the current critical situation facing the Syrian tourism sector. What's more, according to the Minister, Tourism in Syria has experienced significant growth in 2023 with very promising visitor statistics: More than 530,000 visitors between January and June 2023, an increase of 25 % over the same period in 2022.

A solution tailored to today's challenges

In some countries, there are no Syrian embassies or consulates, which greatly complicates the procedures for obtaining a visa. The evisa.sy portal will alleviate this problem by making it possible to foreign citizens to apply for visas directly online from abroad. To make the system more flexible, Syrians residing on their territory will also be able to submit applications on behalf of foreigners via the anjez.gov.sy.

No details of the specific features of this e-Visa (period of validity, length of stay, number of entries, rates, eligible nationalities) have yet been released. The Minister has only announced that it will be issued within a maximum of 72 hours.

Faced with the current challenges of its tourism sector, Syria is adopting a new approach by launching an electronic visa from May 1, 2024.
