India, a land of spirituality and ancestral knowledge, is attracting more and more foreign students in search of a unique academic experience. To seduce this knowledge-hungry youth, New Delhi has introduced a new electronic visa system, the e-Student visa.<\/a>. On paper, the approach seems simple and intuitive.<\/strong> But in practice, obtaining this precious sesame is a real obstacle course.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obtaining this pass to study in the land of the Maharajas involves dealing with a complex bureaucratic system, despite New Delhi's stated intention to simplify the procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The e-student visa is issued for a maximum period of five years<\/strong>corresponding to the duration of the chosen course. It is also possible to extend<\/strong> once in India, offering students a degree of flexibility. What's more, holders of a valid e-student visa can enter India through any immigration checkpoint<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another addition is an \"e-Student-x<\/mark> visa\"<\/strong> e-student visa: specifically designed for the dependents of e-student visa holders. It allows family members to accompany students during their study stay in India. This visa is therefore issued to spouses, children or other dependents of the main student. No details are available on the conditions for obtaining this visa, or its period of validity...<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The e-Student visa obstacle course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

First step, and not the least: registration on the \"Study in India<\/a>\"(SII)<\/strong>a government platform managed by the French Ministry of Education. Its stated aim? To centralize applications from foreign students and offer a selection of courses offered by over 600 Indian institutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A veritable digital labyrinth where it's easy to get lost!<\/strong> Hundreds of programs, from bachelor's degrees to doctorates, as well as more original courses in yoga or Buddhist studies... It's hard to find your way around the 8,000 courses on offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you've found the perfect match, it's time to register. Name, country of origin, date of birth, telephone number, email address... A form as long as your arm, but just a foretaste of what's to come!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next step? Obtaining a precious \"SII ID\", the key to continuing your quest for a student visa.<\/strong> This unique identification number makes it possible to check the authenticity of the application and track its progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, after receiving a letter of acceptance from one of the SII's partner institutions, applicants can submit their visa application via the official Indian government portal (indianvisaonline.gov.in).<\/strong>, without indicating whether you need to go through the \"online paper\" procedure, or actually e-Visa<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
