From April 1, 2025, international airlines operating flights from Bali will require passengers to show proof of payment of the tourist tax before boarding.<\/strong>. This follows the Balinese government's decision to step up enforcement of the tax, introduced in February 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tourist tax, amounting to 150,000 Indonesian rupiahs (around 9.50 US dollars), applies to all foreign visitors, including children. It aims to finance tourism management, the preservation of Balinese culture, and environmental clean-up efforts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Balinese authorities expressed their dissatisfaction with the low compliance rate, estimating that around 60% of visitors were not paying this mandatory tax. To remedy this situation, tougher penalties were announced, ranging from a fine<\/strong> up to ten times the amount of the tax to a week's imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travelers are encouraged to pay in advance via the official online portal<\/a> or the Love Bali app. After payment, a voucher with a QR code is issued, which must be presented at airport and seaport checkpoints in Bali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to note that certain categories of travelers are exempt from this tax, including holders of diplomatic and official visas, crew members, holders of KITAS and KITAP residence permits, and foreign students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
