Reasons for decision<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this measure, decided in May 2023, is based on the principle of reciprocity: none of these three countries grants visa exemption to Brazilian citizens, and Brazil does not offer unilateral exemption for tourist visas. The Brazilian government is nevertheless pursuing negotiations with the USA, Canada and Australia with a view to reciprocal visa waiver agreements. The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, reaffirmed this position, noting that discussions are underway with US authorities to obtain equivalent treatment for Brazilian travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tourism impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, Brazil welcomed 728,537 American tourists, 96,540 Canadians and 52,888 Australians, according to official data from Embratur, the Brazilian tourism agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visa application procedure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Travellers from these three countries will have to make their online visa application e-Visa official<\/a><\/strong>This visa costs 80.90 US dollars. This visa is required for all entry into Brazil, whether by air, sea or land. The maximum stay is 90 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This visa requirement marks the end of an exemption period introduced in 2019 for boost international tourism<\/strong>. Since then, the Brazilian government has repeatedly postponed the reintroduction of the visa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At present, several nationalities are eligible for visa exemption, notably as a result of bilateral agreements.
