Initially set at €7, rates set to rise 20 when the system comes into full effect, expected by the end of 2026. This increase reflects the impact of inflation and rising operating costs, while enabling the EU to support key sectors such as defense and agriculture, and to finance technological investment and operational expenditure for ETIAS itself.

After final validation by the Member States and the European Parliament, this new fare structure will apply to most passengers from the beginning of 2027.

Application and exemptions

The ETIAS will apply to citizens of over 60 visa-exempt countries in the EU. Travelers will need to complete an online form, pay the fee, and obtain authorization before departure. An approved application allows repeated stays of 90 days over a 180-day period, and remains valid for 3 years (or until the expiry of the passport used).

Certain categories remain exempt from the fee:

Under-18s

Over-70s

EU residents

Refugees

Diplomats

However, a ETIAS authorization request on the official platform may still be required, even if fees are waived.

Application procedure

The ETIAS request is made exclusively via the portal or the official EU application.
