Refusal of entry will also be recorded. These data will be stored for three years in a centralized database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main objective of EES is to <strong>effective control of short-term stays<\/strong>A new online tool will enable travelers to check the number of days they have left in the Schengen area, i.e. a maximum of 90 days out of a 180-day period. An online tool will enable travelers to check the number of days remaining in the Schengen area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Progressive implementation by the Schengen States<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This new system will gradually be applied to all <strong>the external borders of Schengen member states<\/strong>. It will have no impact on EU citizens or legal residents, nor on holders of long-stay visas or special residence permits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New entry process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For travellers concerned, it will now be necessary to <strong>scan their passport on a dedicated terminal<\/strong> every time you cross an external border, perform a <strong>fingerprints or a photo<\/strong>which will be compared with those in stock. The introduction of this system could lead to additional waiting times at borders, but information and awareness campaigns are planned to accompany the transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The ETIAS expected in 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE ETIAS<\/strong> (<em>European Travel Information and Authorisation System<\/em>) will correspond to <strong>electronic travel authorization <\/strong>created by the European Union. This approach will <strong>required for entry into a European Union country<\/strong> and will apply to all visa-exempt nationalities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Its launch is scheduled for late 2026<\/strong>Its introduction will be gradual. Authorities indicate that it will be mandatory by 2027. Recently, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visamundi.co\/en\/blog\/increase-in-etias-travel-authorization-fees-consequences-for-travelers\/\">ETIAS tariff change<\/a> has been announced.
