The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently suggested that it could put an end to restrictions on the amount of liquids allowed in hand luggage<\/strong> to airport security. At a press conference organized by \"The Hill<\/em>\", Secretary Kristi Noem questioned the current limits, stating that a change in this regard \"could be the next big announcement\" in the ongoing rethinking of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States is considering new procedures for security checks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This announcement comes after a series of recent adjustments to the rules: the TSA has notably abolished the requirement to remove shoes, improved the benefits granted to military personnel, and opened dedicated lanes for families at certain airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the rule imposes a maximum of around 100ml of liquids per container in a transparent plastic bag, for each passenger. However, neither the exact form of the reform, nor the new authorized volume have been specified: the TSA has not clarified whether the abandonment of this policy would mean the total end of all limits, or simply an increase in the authorized volume. It is also conceivable, according to Forbes, that certain limits will remain, or that nothing will change in the end, if the re-evaluation is unsuccessful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secretary Noem is optimistic: technological innovations could soon enable the TSA to maintain a high level of security while streamlining procedures<\/strong>making the traveler's experience smoother and less restrictive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union is discussing a new model of control equipment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Discussions are currently underway between the European Commission and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) to deploy new screening equipment that will smooth the passenger's path through security checks, before accessing the terminal boarding gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2006, all travelers have been required to limit the capacity of their liquids in the cabin to 100 ml (with the exception of medicines, baby products and special diets). A relaxation of this rule is expected, notably with the arrival of new innovative and technological equipment<\/strong>capable of scanning large containers. Tests were carried out in June 2025 at Rome and Milan airports. If the procedure is approved by the European Union, this equipment will be deployed at other European airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
