An unpleasant surprise for visiting tourists, although other lengths of stay have been spared for the time being.

The island of Madagascar is adjusting its pricing policy. Travelers planning a short getaway to Madagascar should now revise their budgets upwards. A recent press release published on the official portal of the Malagasy authorities (evisamada-mg.com) indicates an increase in entry fees for short stays.

A threefold increase in rates for short stays

Price change quietly came into force in mid-February 2026. It specifically targets the category of travelers making short stays, These are mainly business tourists or holidaymakers from the Indian Ocean (particularly from Reunion and Mauritius).
Before this date, a visa for up to 15 days cost €10. It now costs 30 € (or 35 US$) for the same duration. This tariff revision, almost aligning the cost of a two-week pass with that of a full month.

What hasn't changed: the new price scale

Fortunately for long-stay travelers, this increase is highly targeted. The Malagasy government has chosen not to touch the price scale for other categories of electronic tourist visas.
If you're planning a longer tour, your budget won't be affected.

Stays of up to 15 days : 30 € (or 35 $) 🔴 Up sharply

Stay from 16 to 30 days : 35 € (or 41 $) 🟢 Rate unchanged

Stays of 31 to 60 days : 40 (or 47 $) 🟢 Rate unchanged

Stays of 31 to 60 days : 40 (or 47 $) 🟢 Rate unchanged

Please note: The price for a visa extension directly on site also remains fixed at 210,000 ariary (approx. €41).

Visas on arrival and consulates: an alternative?

It is important to specify that this increase applies to exclusively to the electronic visa system (e-Visa).
To date, Madagascar's embassies and consulates abroad, as well as visa-on-arrival counters at international airports (such as Ivato in Antananarivo), have not passed on this increase.
