Although the exact date of entry into force has not been announced, the measure has been taken note of by the authorities.

💡 Our agency's advice: In this period of transition, we recommend that all our customers planning a trip of more than a month secure their entry by applying for a classic Tourist Visa (E-Visa) in advance, to avoid any unpleasant surprises on boarding or in the presence of immigration officials.

Before / After : Concrete changes for you

Criteria

Situation from July 2024 to today

New regulations (Coming soon)

Exemption period

60 days

30 days ⚠️

Eligible nationalities

93 countries

93 countries (no change)

On-site extension

+ 30 days (local immigration)

+ 30 days (local immigration)

Maximum duration (without visa)

90 days in total

60 days total (30 initial + 30 extension)

Why is Thailand, which is constantly seeking to boost its attractiveness, going backwards? Two major structural factors have been identified:
Combating the underground economy and illegal employment: The 60-day time limit has been widely abused. Numerous foreign tourism operators, using “nominee” companies, have exploited this loophole to operate illegally in the country. In this way, they avoid paying taxes and compete unfairly with local businesses.
A measure disproportionate to the reality of tourism: The statistics are clear. The majority of long-haul travellers spend between 14 and 21 days in Thailand. Regional travelers spend an average of one week. The administrative maintenance of a massive flow of 60-day exemptions was therefore no longer justified.

Since the beginning of 2026, the authorities have been discussing this measure and towards a end of 60-day visa waiver.

International travelers: What are your options now?

Our agency accompanies travelers from all over the world on a daily basis. Is your nationality one of the 93 exempted countries? Here are your solutions if your stay exceeds 30 days:

Option 1: On-site extension (For stays of up to 60 days). If you leave without a visa (30-day exemption), you retain the right to go to a Thai Immigration office once you've arrived to apply for a visa. one-off extension of 30 days (cost: THB 1,900, about €50). The downside: You will need to build up a physical file to obtain an extension to your current visa.

Option 2: Electronic visa (e-Visa). This is the solution we prefer for our travelers. The classic tourist visa (TR Single-Entry or TR-M Multi-Entry) issued online will automatically grant you 60 days' continuous stay. You can then extend it by 30 days on site, bringing your total to 90 days.

The advantage of our service: We take care of ensuring that your supporting documents are in order and that your file is submitted to the Thai authorities. Obtaining a visa for Thailand can be complex, and a complete file is necessary to avoid any delay in processing your application. It can take approximately 3 weeks by the Thai Embassy from your country of residence.

How can I entrust my case to your experts?
Immigration rules in Thailand change rapidly.
