Mobile Passport Control: The App That Speeds Up U.S. Airport Arrivals
Discover how the free Mobile Passport Control app streamlines U.S. customs and immigration processing, helping travelers skip long lines with digital pre-clearance.
Navigating U.S. airports can feel overwhelming, especially when standing in long customs and immigration lines. The Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app simplifies this process for international travelers arriving in America—saving time and reducing stress at the border.
Learn how this user-friendly app works and why it’s become a game-changer for globetrotters visiting the United States.
Reducing visa processing delays and enhancing arrival experiences remain top priorities for U.S. authorities.
What Is Mobile Passport Control?
Mobile Passport Control is a free mobile app developed in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). It lets international travelers submit their passport, travel, and profile details before landing—eliminating long waits at immigration and manual data entry upon arrival.
By using MPC, travelers can breeze through U.S. Customs without the traditional queue, shortening border-crossing times significantly.

How Does It Work?
To use MPC, download the app on your smartphone or tablet from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store for Android. After installation, create a secure profile once—adding details like full name, date of birth, and passport number. Your information is stored locally on your device, making future entries faster.
When preparing for a U.S. trip, use the app to complete an electronic form with travel details: arrival date, departure airport, flight number, baggage information, and any regulated or dutiable goods you’re carrying.
What Happens After Submitting Information?
Upon submission, MPC generates a unique QR code for each traveler. At your destination, head to the dedicated MPC line for fast-track immigration. Present your smartphone or tablet to a CBP officer, who will scan the QR code to verify your details and grant entry. Some airports offer dedicated MPC Wi-Fi hotspots to access the app without using mobile data.
Where Is Mobile Passport Control Available?
Since its 2014 launch at select airports, Mobile Passport Control has expanded to over 30 major U.S. airports—including John F. Kennedy (JFK) in New York, Los Angeles International (LAX), and Miami International (MIA).
The app is also now accessible at Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH), for travelers transiting to the U.S. The full list of participating airports and additional setup details can be found on the official MPC website.
Who Can Use Mobile Passport Control?
MPC is available to:
U.S. and Canadian citizens traveling on valid passports
U.S. permanent residents
Travelers entering the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA), except on first-time ESTA entry voyages
While similar in purpose to the Global Entry program, MPC is completely free and requires no pre-registration, in-person interview, or fee. Travelers can use both systems in tandem—MPC for speed, Global Entry for ongoing benefits—to optimize their airport experience.
Note: MPC does not replace ESTA requirements. Travelers in the Visa Waiver Program must still apply for and receive an approved ESTA before using MPC to expedite customs.
