Nepal Launches Electronic Visa System After Successful Pilot

Nepal’s new online visa system aims to boost tourism, eliminating the need for in-person immigration office or airport queues. Learn how the eTA simplifies entry, its validity, eligible nationalities, and key entry points.

After a successful pilot phase, Nepal has officially launched its electronic visa system. The government’s primary goal is to attract more tourists by simplifying travel formalities.

With this new service, travelers will no longer need to visit an immigration office in person or stand in queues at airports to obtain their visa. Previously, only Nepali embassies in the USA🇺🇸 and Germany🇩🇪 could issue e-Visas to replace the traditional passport sticker.

A Simplified Visa Application Process

By introducing the electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), Nepali authorities aim to encourage more international visitors to the country. The new online payment system for visa services will save travelers time and reduce the administrative steps required for obtaining a Nepal visa.

Technological Improvements for a Smoother Experience

Visa validity options include 15 days (USD 30), 30 days (USD 50), or 90 days (USD 125). Virtually all nationalities are eligible, including Western passport holders.

By rolling out this online system, Nepal has made significant strides in modernizing its consular services. Travelers planning to visit the Himalayan nation can now complete all formalities in just a few clicks from the comfort of home.

While the electronic visa service has been officially launched, it is not yet globally available. Travelers must still apply through a Nepali embassy or obtain their visa on arrival in Nepal. However, Nepali authorities plan to gradually expand access via this system, further positioning the country as a welcoming and modern tourist destination.
