China Opens New Visa Application Hub in Riyadh to Ease Travel
Asia’s most dynamic destination welcomes a groundbreaking visa-application facility in Riyadh, cutting wait times and paperwork as arrivals surge—official rollout capped five days of soft launches.
In a move to make travel to China more accessible and streamlined, a brand-new visa application centre was inaugurated in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The opening marks an important milestone in responding to rapidly rising demand for visa services across the region.
Enhancing the traveller experience
Located in Riyadh, the centre was opened for a five-day trial starting 26 August 2024, becoming fully operational on 29 August 2024. Since launch it has already begun transforming the visa-application journey for would-be visitors.
Soaring application volumes
Urgent need for the facility is underscored by figures showing the Chinese embassy in Riyadh handled more than 20,000 visa applications this year—double last year’s intake. The surge highlights the growing appetite and commitment to travel between China and Saudi Arabia.
Fresh rule changes for smoother cross-border trips
Since 1 July 2024, simplified tourism-visa procedures, discounted fees and a sharp rise in flight capacity have eased journeys for Chinese tourists heading to Saudi Arabia.
How the visa hub operates
Run by China Youth Travel Service Aoyou Technology Development Co., Ltd., the hub acts on behalf of the embassy to collect visa-service and expedited-processing fees. It does not determine final visa terms—those decisions remain with the embassy, including validity period and entry counts. Diplomatic, service or courtesy passport holders must still submit applications directly at the embassy.
Additional paperwork & interviews
Consular staff may at times request additional documentation or interviews to complete applications. Extended-pace processing carries a supplementary fee.
Saudi Arabia has rolled out sweeping measures to improve convenience for Chinese visitors—boosting daily China–Saudi flight frequencies and introducing on-arrival visas—aiming to welcome more than five million Chinese tourists by 2030.
A welcoming touch
Saudi airports and major attractions will display Chinese-language signage and audio guides, while countless points of sale will accept UnionPay to smooth every step of the stay.
