Japan Airlines Launches Clothing Rental Service for Stress-Free Travel

Starting July 5 and running at least through August 2024, Japan Airlines—in partnership with Sumitomo Corporation—is piloting an innovative clothing-rental service called “Any Wear, Anywhere.” The initiative lets travelers check in with just a carry-on while staying stylish anywhere in Japan.

The biggest downside of long-haul travel is hauling suitcases stuffed with outfits you may wear only once. The new rental program eliminates that hassle by letting passengers pick garments on arrival, sidestep overstuffed luggage, and breeze through airports and hotels with minimal baggage.

Checking bags is so yesterday

No more overpacking, rejigging outfits at 3 a.m., or wrestling oversize cases through Narita’s corridors. Guests simply reserve their desired looks when booking their JAL ticket. The items are waiting—either curbside at the airport or in the hotel room—so travelers can step off the plane ready to explore.

A friction-free rental experience

Reservations are made during the flight booking process. The delivery window is flexible: guests can request pickup at Narita, Haneda, or Kansai airports or have the box delivered to participating hotels. Fees scale with rental length and remain wallet-friendly compared with checked-bag surcharges.

Return & relax

When checkout day arrives, guests simply fold the rented pieces into the preaddressed return pouch provided. Cleaning and refurbishment are handled by the JAL–Sumitomo team, so travelers can stroll to the airport unencumbered by extra baggage.
