Mozambique e-Visa now available for travelers

Mozambique launches electronic visa to boost tourism. Learn how to apply online, requirements, and why this East African gem is becoming a must-visit destination.

To develop and promote tourism, Mozambique—the East African nation—has officially launched its electronic visa (e-Visa). Travelers can now apply for this entry authorization entirely online.

The Mozambican authorities aim to attract more international visitors with the introduction of the e-visa. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has emphasized that this initiative will position Mozambique as a key tourist destination in Africa, joining rivals such as Tanzania and Kenya. The move is part of a broader government strategy to enhance the country’s international profile and strengthen the national economy. This entry visa covers travel for tourism, business, and investment purposes.

How to Apply for the Mozambique e-Visa

The official e-visa can be requested through the government portal. The government has stated a processing time of approximately five business days. Applicants must first create an account and follow the step-by-step procedure. Multiple e-visa categories are available, covering travel for tourism, business, investment, humanitarian work, sports, cultural visits, or as a crew member.

A special “Border Visa” (e-Visa à l’arrivée) is offered for travelers arriving via specific airports and land entry points or those invited by Mozambican residents. Confirm with your airline whether you qualify for this visa-on-arrival option.

Fees depend on visa type, number of entries, and duration of stay. Each e-visa specifies a maximum permitted stay period.

To complete the online application, the following documents are required:

  • A copy of your valid passport (must remain valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay);

  • A recent color passport photo;

  • Proof of financial means for the duration of your trip;

  • A hotel reservation or a letter of invitation issued by a tour operator or travel agency;

  • An inbound and outbound travel ticket, whether by air or sea—this is mandatory.

When filling out the form, you must provide your passport details, personal information, profession, destination address in Mozambique, and travel transport details (number and arrival method).

Discovering Mozambique’s Tourism Potential

Perfect for beach tourism, Mozambique is blessed with pristine Indian Ocean shorelines and sweeping palm-fringed beaches. Although less well-known than its regional peers, the country offers remarkable diversity packed into a single territory. As a former Portuguese colony, its history remains deeply etched into the landscape. Rebuilt after a 16-year civil war, the nation is now reimagining itself for tourism while safeguarding its rich heritage—making it an unparalleled destination of striking landscapes and hidden wonders. The country is roughly divided into two regions: the modern southern capital and fast-growing urban hub, and the northern half, still developing yet rich in authentic local ways of life.

Explore Mozambican villages and local ethnic groups, visit tropical islands, immerse yourself in colonial heritage, and unwind among endless beaches, shifting dunes, lagoons, and palm groves. If you seek adventure and crave an encounter with an extraordinary culture, Mozambique is poised to become your next unforgettable destination.
