The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has taken an important step in its digital development with the announcement of the forthcoming launch of an integrated electronic visa management platform. This initiative will enable anyone wishing to visit the DRC to submit their application quickly and easily from anywhere in the world.
An innovative technological solution to simplify administrative procedures
Dรฉsirรฉ Casimir Eberande Kolongele, Minister of Digital Affairs, announced this excellent news at the 115th Council of Ministers meeting chaired by the Head of State, Fรฉlix Tshisekedi. In his view, this modern platform will not only facilitate access to the country for foreign visitors, but also reinforce security and risk management measures.
The advantages of this technological solution include
- You can submit your visa application from anywhere in the world,
- Fast, automated processing of files thanks to 61 diplomatic missions and consular posts around the world,
- Better coordination between the various ministries involved in issuing visas, notably the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the Interior, Security and Customary Affairs,
- Improved tracking and tracing of visa application files.
Digital infrastructure modernization in the DRC
The launch of this platform comes at a time when digital infrastructures in the Democratic Republic of Congo are being modernized. It has to be said that the country is still lagging behind in this area, notably due to the deplorable state of the equipment belonging to LOCOSEM, a subsidiary of Semlex, the operator previously responsible for visas. This situation prompted Minister Eberande Kolongele to ask the government to support the President's desire to introduce an electronic visa system for the country.
Facilitating travel and strengthening the Congolese economy
With this new electronic visa system, the DRC hopes not only to facilitate international travel to its territory, but also to boost its economy by attracting more visitors. The tourism sector in particular should benefit from this administrative modernization, which will encourage travelers from all over the world to come and discover the natural and cultural riches of the DRC. Democratic Republic of Congo.
Key figures :
- More than 80 million inhabitants,
- 61 diplomatic missions and consular posts worldwide,
- Numerous sites of tourist interest, such as Virunga and Salonga National Parks.
Modernization of Congolese e-Visa already in place
Technically, the Democratic Republic of Congo already has an e-Visa that is rather original and highly impractical for several reasons:
- You have to pay very high costs online first, then pay a fee on arrival (approx. 390โฌ in all)
- There length of stay does not exceed 7 days with this e-Visa
- If the initial approach is electronic, the need to finalize the process on arrival removes all its advantages
There's no doubt that the new version of the Congolese e-Visa will help the country move forward in its drive to attract tourists to the country.
