Hajj 2024: Saudi E-Visa Validity Dates Revealed

Saudi Arabia sets new Umrah e-Visa validity period starting at issuance, not arrival, with new entry deadline before Hajj 2024. Key changes for pilgrims ahead.

Saudi Arabia – home to Islam’s holiest cities, Makkah and Madinah – has recently overhauled its visa policies to enhance the pilgrimage experience. These adjustments also impact the planning and fulfillment of Umrah (the lesser pilgrimage), coinciding with the country’s active preparations for Hajj 2024.

By revising these rules, authorities aim to better synchronize pilgrim flows ahead of the major Hajj gathering, reducing potential overlaps that could disrupt both logistics and the spiritual essence of these sacred journeys.

New Umrah Visa Timeframe

According to the latest announcement from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the prior three-month validity for Umrah e-Visas now begins from the date of issuance instead of entry into Saudi territory. This key change gives pilgrims greater flexibility in planning their trips.

⚠️ Important, e-Visas issued for "Umrah/Omra/pilgrimage" purposes are categorized under the "Tourism" designation. As a result, they are not subject to the newly revised validity period mentioned above.

The visas must be used to enter Saudi Arabia before 15 Dhul Qadah (23 May 2024 in the Gregorian calendar), a slightly earlier deadline compared to previous years when the cutoff was 29 Dhul Qadah (6 June).

Seamless Transition to Hajj 2024

Hajj, one of Islam’s five pillars, demands meticulous planning from both authorities and pilgrims. By shortening the Umrah visa validity window just before the start of Hajj, Saudi officials aim to streamline the transition between the two pilgrimages. International visitors must therefore carefully monitor their visa issuance dates to ensure they can complete their Umrah without delay.

During Hajj itself, e-Visas are not valid for entry at airports serving Madinah and Jeddah (for Makkah), regardless of travel reason. A dedicated Hajj visa is required during this period. This year, Hajj concludes on Wednesday, 19 June 2024.
