India extends India tourist eVisa window to 120 days

India’s popular 30-day tourist eVisa can now be applied for up to four months before travel, easing planning and cutting last-minute stress for trip organizers.

You may have felt that special kind of travel planning dread: holding non-refundable flight tickets and confirmed hotel bookings, yet barred from even submitting a visa application. Until very recently, that was the absurd reality behind India’s “30-day tourist e-Visa” loophole.

If you usually rely on a dedicated visa agency to remove the headache, here’s why the old system added unnecessary stress—and why India’s latest reform is a welcome change.

The former squeeze: last-minute filing only

The entire problem stemmed from a rigid calendar rule. India’s most popular tourist visa—the budget 30-day e-Visa—could be applied for only within a strict 30-day window before arrival. Until 18 December 2025, applicants were locked out of the system if their trip was planned more than a month ahead.

Picture the scenario. You book flights and accommodations six months out, wanting to complete every requirement early and enjoy peace of mind. Yet the Indian e-Visa portal simply refused any attempt to file earlier, leaving you waiting for the “fated month” to even hit “submit.” Mistimed entry dates and frantic rescheduling were constant risks.

Many travelers settled for the far pricier one-year eTourist visa just to secure a submission slot months in advance.

Hidden peril: longer processing realities

Short filing windows became even riskier toward the end of 2025. That’s when India quietly dropped its once-trumpeted 72-hour visa turnaround. Gone was the near-instant approval promise; processing delays became the new normal for foreign travelers.

Good news arrived on 18 December 2025. India finally closed the anomaly: the 30-day tourist e-Visa can now be filed as early as 120 days—four full months—before you land in India.

We verified on the official site: the earliest filing date is indeed four months ahead.

With this reform, entrusting your eVisa to a specialist agency becomes genuinely useful. Before, even professional help was powerless until the final 30 days. Now, as soon as your travel plans are set, you can hand your paperwork—passport, photo—to Visamundi and we can:

• Confirm the photo meets strict requirements  (the #1 reason for denial)
• Submit your application immediately, beating the seasonal rush
• Handle any glitches in the official portal or requests for extra documents—all before your flight date looms on the calendar.
