Manohar International Airport in Goa now eligible for India’s e-Visa
Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Goa, is now an eligible entry point for India’s e-Visa, streamlining international travel to the country.
The Manohar International Airport in Mopa has been added to the list of entry points eligible for India’s electronic visa (e-Visa) system as of 17 August. This new international airport in the Indian state of Goa now allows tourists and business travelers worldwide to benefit from this streamlined entry process into India.
The e-Visa is an online visa application system introduced by the Indian government in 2014. It enables nationals of numerous countries to apply quickly and easily for a visa online without visiting an embassy or consulate. Travelers can receive their visa within days without submitting physical documents or mailing in their passport.
Convenience for tourists and business travelers
The addition of the Manohar International Airport to the list of e-Visa eligible entry points brings the total number of airports and seaports to 30 airports and five seaports. This move is expected to facilitate international travel to India, allowing tourists and business travelers to use the e-Visa system for faster, hassle-free entry into the country. More eligible exit points now cover most traveler needs.
Economic benefits expected for Goa
Manohar International Airport’s inclusion as an e-Visa entry point is set to boost Goa’s economic development. By making it easier for international tourists to access the state, the airport could drive an increase in visitors, stimulating the local economy through tourism and business travel spending.
Gradual expansion of the e-Visa system
The Indian government aims to make international travel to the country easier by progressively expanding the number of e-Visa eligible entry points. Since its 2014 launch, the e-Visa system has been extended to multiple international airports and land border crossings, now covering nearly 30 entry points across India.
Sustained growth of the e-Visa program
Since its introduction, the e-Visa system has seen strong uptake among international travelers. Official figures show a steady rise in electronic visas issued: India issued 10.3 million e-visas in 2022, a 100 percent increase from the previous year, which was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The e-Visa covers purposes including tourism, business, medical treatment, and conferences, with fees ranging from $10 to $80 USD, excluding intermediary service charges.
