South Korea Extends K-ETA Waiver Until End of 2025
The South Korean government has extended the K-ETA exemption for nationals of 67 visa-exempt countries, including France, the U.S., Canada, and Australia, until December 31, 2025. The move aims to boost tourism recovery and simplify entry paperwork for travelers.
The South Korean government has extended the exemption from the Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) requirement through 31 December 2025. The decision supports the country’s post-pandemic tourism revival efforts by simplifying entry procedures for travelers from 67 visa-exempt countries.
Duration of the Waiver : The exemption, initially slated to end on 31 December 2024, now runs an additional year, allowing tourists to visit Korea without first applying for K-ETA authorization.
Eligible Nationalities : Citizens of 67 countries—including France, Canada, the United States, Australia and several European nations—will not need K-ETA for short stays (up to 90 days for Europeans) in South Korea. See the full list of eligible countries.
The South Korean authorities note that those already exempt also have the option to submit a K-ETA application in advance to bypass on-arrival paperwork—such as the arrival card—when eligible.
Why the Extension?
Extending the K-ETA waiver is primarily aimed at supporting South Korea’s beleaguered tourism sector. By reducing entry formalities, the government hopes to attract more visitors and stimulate the local economy.

How It Works
Nationals of visa-exempt countries do not need a K-ETA to enter South Korea until the end of 2025.
Anyone who wishes to apply voluntarily—such as to avoid filling out an arrival card—can still file online. The K-ETA fee is 10,000 KRW (about €7).
Exemptions Within the Exemption
Children & Seniors : Travelers under 17 or over 65 have not needed a K-ETA since July 2023.
Visa Holders : Holders of any existing Korean visa are exempt from the K-ETA requirement.
