Thailand’s Test & Go program restarts on February 1, 2022

Thailand’s Test & Go quarantine-free entry program resumes on February 1, 2022, with new rules including mandatory SHA Extra+ or AQ-certified hotel stays on days 0 and 5.

Suspended on December 22 due to the spread of the Omicron variant, Thailand’s Test & Go programme will restart in a matter of days. Fully vaccinated travellers will once again be exempt from strict quarantine on arrival.

However, new measures introduced by Thai authorities—backed by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports—now require travellers to book two mandatory hotel nights, on day 0 (the night of arrival) and day 5, pending the results of two RT-PCR tests taken on those days.

Travellers must book their stays at properties certified either « SHA Extra+ » or « AQ », paired with nearby hospitals (the two locations can differ). Once they receive a negative result from the first test on arrival, they may leave quarantine-free before taking a second test on the fifth day in a partner hotel or hospital under the same conditions. Crucially, travellers do not need to remain in their hotel between arrival and day five if both RT-PCR results are negative.

Thai authorities have also expanded eligibility to travellers from all countries, whereas only 63 nations – including France – qualified for quarantine exemption before the programme’s December suspension.

Other entry pathways such as the Phuket and Samui Sandbox programmes continue to allow vaccinated travellers to move freely within designated zones – Phuket and Koh Samui respectively – before proceeding elsewhere in Thailand, provided they return negative PCR results.

Two additional destinations will join the Sandbox scheme: Chonburi (covering Pattaya, Koh Sichang and Sattahip) and Koh Chang, an island in Trat Province.
