World Expo 2030: a showcase for Saudi Arabia's modernization efforts
THE World Expo 2030 represents a unique opportunity for Saudi Arabia to show the world its progress in modernizing and diversifying its economy, in line with its Vision 2030. The objective is clear: to become a major player on the international stage in terms of tourism, sport and other so-called modern sectors. This event coincides with a crucial stage in this vision, as it is at this point that the oil-rich kingdom hopes to have fully diversified its economy.
- Colossal investment: The Saudi authorities have announced that Saudi Arabia has won the bid to host the World Expo, beating out Italy and South Korea in the process. Nearly $8 billion will be invested to transform the capital Riyadh into a vast events venue, covering an area of 6.6 square kilometers.
- Large crowds expected: The country estimates that this World Expo will enable it to welcome no fewer than 40 million visitors from the four corners of the globe to discover the technological, cultural and environmental advances presented at this major international event.
- New national airline : To ensure connections between the various World Expo sites and other tourist destinations, Saudi Arabia will also be launching its new national airline, which will be operational by then.
A special visa modelled on Qatar's Hayya Card
To make it easier to welcome these millions of visitors, the idea of a special World Expo visa is making its mark. Inspired by Hayya Card for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar or the World Cup in China. Expected economic impact
Following in the footsteps of previous World Expos, such as the one organized in the United Arab Emirates, the World Expo is expected to have a considerable effect on the Saudi economy:
- Major financial benefits : World Expo 2030 is expected to generate significant spin-offs in the form of direct spending (hotels, business services, etc.), which could amount to $33 billion over a 20-year period.
- Effects on the real estate sector : Holding this event could boost the construction and real estate sectors, with the creation of hotels and other infrastructure needed to accommodate international visitors.
