The Colombian remote work visa: a fresh addition to Nomamundi’s portfolio

Colombia has emerged as one of the latest countries welcoming digital nomads. The government introduced a dedicated remote work visa in October 2022. Medellín, already a hub for tech talent, has long attracted remote workers drawn to its lower cost of living and strong digital infrastructure—and other Colombian cities are now following suit.

This visa initiative aims to formalize the entry of digital nomads into the country. Under Resolución 5477 de 2022, a digital nomad is defined as a professional providing remote work services—whether as an employee or independent contractor—for a foreign company.

How to qualify for the Colombian remote work visa

Applicants must:

• Hold a valid passport.

• Provide proof of employment or contracts with foreign companies (indicating remote work capability for employees or evidence of freelance activity).

• Entrepreneurs must submit a detailed business plan including project and financial information.

• Digital nomads should present bank statements from the last three months, demonstrating income equivalent to at least three minimum salaries.

• Provide proof of comprehensive medical insurance covering all risks during the stay (including death, repatriation, maternity, medical care, and disability).

Visa costs and application process

Applicants pay $52 USD / €40 for application processing. Upon approval, a further $230 USD / €177 is required. Nomamundi charges €90 for its facilitation services. All applications must be submitted online, including document uploads and online payment. Applicants receive a decision within 30 days.
