Burkina Faso finally launches its e-Visa
After months of delays and political instability, Burkina Faso’s long-awaited e-Visa system is now live, promising streamlined entry for tourists, business travelers, and more.
Originally scheduled for late 2021, the Burkina Faso e-Visa system was delayed by nearly 18 months of political turbulence—but on 1 February 2023 the government officially launched the new online visa service.
A comprehensive French and English portal lets international travelers apply and receive approvals electronically for a range of visas: tourist, family visit, business, conference, study, and transit. The service targets any nationality that previously required an on-arrival visa or a trip to the embassy—including Europeans—though conventional applications remain possible and the pricing has been aligned with the e-Visa rates.
To file an application you must provide: a copy of your passport, an identity photo, hotel booking confirmation, health insurance, and an international vaccination record proving yellow-fever immunization.
Costs run from €51 for a standard tourist visa covering up to three months, rising to €143 for a multi-entry business visa and €160 for an expedited “express visa.” France remains the top source market for arrivals, even as the local climate evolves.
