Cameroon Waives Visa Requirement for CEMAC and Swiss Nationals
Cameroon lifts visa obligations for travelers from CEMAC member nations and Swiss official passport holders, easing regional mobility and strengthening economic ties.
Nationals of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) may now travel to Cameroon without first obtaining a visa. This change applies to citizens of the Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic, and Chad.
Visa-exemption certificate required for CEMAC citizens
To formalize the new arrangement, affected travelers must secure a visa-exemption certificate. The document will be issued by the Cameroonian embassy in Paris and will allow holders to move freely throughout Cameroon without fear of administrative complications.
Understanding CEMAC
The Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) was established in 1994 to advance economic and monetary integration among its member states.
CEMAC comprises two core institutions: the Central African Monetary Union (UMAC), tasked with overseeing the CFA franc—the common currency shared by member countries—and the Central African Economic Union (UEAC), which works to harmonize regulations across member states to facilitate trade and economic policy alignment.
What about Switzerland?
In addition to CEMAC nationals, holders of an official Swiss passport—including diplomatic or service passports—are also eligible for the visa exemption.

The Cameroon e-Visa is an electronic travel authorization enabling passport holders from around 150 countries to visit Cameroon without visiting a consulate or embassy. It permits one or multiple entries for stays of up to 90 days.
