The Six European Nations Benefiting from China’s Visa Exemption

During a press conference held on the sidelines of the National People’s Congress in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that visa exemptions would be extended to six European countries. These include: Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

For Switzerland and Belgium, this move was already widely anticipated.

Under the new policy, effective from March 14, 2024, nationals of the listed countries will be permitted to visit China without a visa for stays of up to 15 days. The permitted purposes include business, tourism, family visits, or transit. This initiative is part of an experimental program that will remain in effect until November 30, 2024.

Potential for Further Expansion

Minister Wang Yi indicated that China aims to expand this visa exemption list further.
