Free transport for Euro 2024 ticket holders in Germany
UEFA partners with VDV to offer Euro 2024 fans free 36-hour travel passes in all host cities, promoting sustainable transport.
To encourage sustainable, eco-friendly travel, UEFA has partnered with Germany’s VDV public transport association to give Euro 2024 ticket holders free 36-hour travel passes for matches in the upcoming tournament hosted by Germany.
UEFA and VDV team up for greener fan mobility
UEFA and VDV have struck a deal allowing ticket holders for the Euro 2024 final tournament to access a special pass for free travel across all host cities for 36 hours. Fans can use regional trains, buses, trams, bicycles, and some passenger ferries within any host city without extra cost. The passes become valid at 6:00 a.m. on match days and expire at 6:00 p.m. the following day.
How to access the free travel offer before the tournament
Ticket holders will receive detailed instructions before the tournament on how to claim their free travel pass.
The initiative aims to cut carbon emissions by encouraging fans to use public transport rather than cars.
VDV forecasts that around 70% of spectators travelling to stadiums during Euro 2024 will use public transport.
Taking a leaf out of Euro 2020’s book
UEFA introduced a similar offer at Euro 2020, when ticket holders in four host cities gained free public-transport access for limited windows. Extending the initiative for Euro 2024 underscores the governing body’s commitment to sustainable transport and reducing the environmental footprint of its major events.
Ten host cities championing eco-friendly mobility
The 2024 UEFA European Championship will be played across Germany in ten host cities: Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund. To help visiting fans make the most of the free-travel offer:
Tailored infrastructure improvements are being put in place to streamline fan arrivals and departures.
The passes let supporters explore each host city’s cultural and architectural treasures while travelling carbon-free.
