Thailand Eases Tourist Visa Requirements for French Travelers
Thailand simplifies tourist visa procedures for French nationals, removing financial proof, accommodation reservations, and criminal record checks for select visa types.
The Thai authorities in France have announced new measures to streamline visa application processes for French nationals.
With Thailand’s growing appeal as a tourism destination, the changes aim to ease administrative procedures and better support the travel and tourism industry.
Key Changes to Visa Procedures
Significant updates have been made to tourist visas (TR) of 60 days, O visas of 90 days for travelers over 50, and OA long-term visas for the same age group.
60-Day Tourist Visa (TR): Proof of financial solvency is no longer required. Previously, applicants had to submit bank statements to verify sufficient funds.
90-Day O Visa (for travelers over 50): Applicants no longer need to submit accommodation reservations, such as private invitations or hotel confirmations, to obtain this visa.
One-Year OA Visa (for travelers over 50): Police clearance certificates are no longer required for this application.
Processing Times Remain Long
While the requirements have eased, processing times at the Thai Embassy in France remain lengthy. Applicants should expect to wait 4 to 6 weeks for visa approval. Travelers are strongly advised to apply well in advance to avoid delays before their planned trip.
Why Thailand Remains a Top Choice for French Travelers
Thailand continues to captivate French tourists with its stunning beaches, vibrant gastronomy, and rich, diverse culture. Official figures show over one million French visitors travel to Thailand each year, underlining the country’s enduring popularity as an Asian destination.
