Hong Kong launches electronic visa service on December 28, 2021
Starting December 28, 2021, Hong Kong’s immigration department will offer an electronic visa service, enabling remote applications via website or mobile app, with visas delivered by email.
The Hong Kong government has confirmed: the Immigration Department launches its new electronic visa application service, allowing travelers to submit applications online and receive visas via email—no in-person visits required.
Applications can be made through the Immigration Department’s website or mobile app, or via the Special Administrative Region government’s official website.
This e-visa system aims to reduce document fraud and verify traveler details by scanning the QR code on the Immigration Department’s mobile application.
With the rollout of the electronic visa system, the Immigration Department will no longer issue the traditional passport stickers. However, visas, entry permits, and stay extensions issued before December 28, 2021, remain valid as indicated on the labels.

Additionally, the electronic visa agreement does not apply to visas and permits issued by Chinese diplomatic missions, consulates, or immigration divisions of mainland Hong Kong SAR government offices.
