Indonesia Halts Immigration Services March 18–24, 2026
A rare convergence of Bali’s Nyepi Day and Eid al-Fitr holidays forces Indonesia’s immigration services to close nationwide from March 18 to 24, 2026.
If you’re planning to travel to or extend your stay in Indonesia in March 2026, mark your calendar carefully. Owing to the national celebrations of Nyepi (Bali’s Day of Silence) and Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, the Directorate General of Immigration has announced a temporary nationwide shutdown of its official services.
What you need to know:
Closure period: Wednesday, 18 March 2026 through Tuesday, 24 March 2026, inclusive.
Services suspended: All in-person offices (visa extensions and stay permits) and the official e-Visa online portal.
Still operating: Border controls at airports and Visa on Arrival (VoA) counters will remain fully functional.

Processing times for visa applications may exceed normal timelines once the services resume.
The VoA (30-day Visa on Arrival) can be issued on the spot—the travel document is available immediately after payment. Applicants for the electronic tourist visa (60-day) are urged to apply early, as processing can take up to approximately one week.
Any application paid for on or after 17 March will be processed only after the reopening on 25 March 2026.
A rare national calendar crossover
This shutdown is more than a routine administrative pause—it reflects the near-simultaneous observance of two of Indonesia’s most significant celebrations. In March 2026 the archipelago marks both Nyepi—Bali’s New Year, observed with absolute silence, stillness and the cessation of all activities—and Eid al-Fitr, the end of the holy month of Ramadan. To enable family travel and reflection, the Indonesian government has declared a series of nationwide collective holidays dubbed Cuti Bersama.

During this shared holiday week, government administration effectively operates on skeleton staff, necessitating a temporary halt of visa processing systems so that technical maintenance can align with the national public-holiday schedule.
