India e-Visa: New Air, Land & Sea Entry Points (2026)
India expands e-Visa entry points in 2026 to include key land borders with Nepal and Bhutan, new seaports, and updated airport access—streamlining travel with digital arrival cards and simplified procedures.
India has just announced the opening of new entry points, expanding the list of airports, seaports, and land border crossing designated for electronic visa (e-Visa) travelers. From now on, visitors using an e-Visa can enter India by land at borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
Newly Authorized Entry Points
Previously, reaching India by e-Visa often required a flight to a major city. Since late 2025, significant changes have opened up land border arrivals for e-Visa holders. Designed for slow travelers and those exploring South Asia, entry is now possible at the following border crossings:
Jogbani (Bihar): Convenient for travelers coming from eastern Nepal.
Darranga (Assam): The new official gateway from Bhutan.
Additionally, the e-Visa is now accepted at 19 seaports, including the new entries at Kollam and Vizhinjam—ideal for cruise arrivals and private vessel landings in Kerala.
33 airports are now equipped to process e-Visa travelers, with the Vijayawada Airport (Andhra Pradesh) added to the list. The list of authorized Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) for e-Visa entry can be found on India’s official e-Visa portal.

The 2026 Pre-Trip ‘No-Stress’ Checklist
India has fully digitized its entry process. To visit in 2026, travelers must have two mandatory items:
1. e-Visa (ETA)
Applications can now be submitted up to 120 days before arrival. Your passport must have at least two blank pages and remain valid for six months after entry. A passport-style photo is also required during application.
2. New e-Arrival Card (Required)
Since late 2025, the old paper landing cards distributed on flights have been replaced. Travelers must now complete an e-Arrival Card online via the official portal (or via the Su-Swagatam mobile app) within 72 hours of air or land arrival. A QR code will be issued for immigration clearance.
Common Traveler Questions
Can I exit India via a non-listed point?
Yes. Restrictions apply only to entry. For exit, any of India’s 100+ registered Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) may be used.
Is the e-Visa valid for travel to Sikkim or Ladakh?
While the e-Visa allows entry into mainland India, certain sensitive areas such as Sikkim, parts of Ladakh, or Arunachal Pradesh require an additional Protected Area Permit (PAP) or Restricted Area Permit (RAP). These permits are available on arrival at designated counters or via licensed agencies.
What if I arrive at a land border not listed for e-Visa use?
Travelers holding an e-Visa who present at an unapproved land border (e.g., Wagah with Pakistan) will be denied entry. e-Visa holders must enter through one of the four approved land crossings, a seaport, or an authorized airport.
