Israel Launches e-Visa and ETA for Easier Entry in 2024

Israel officially introduces e-Visa and Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to simplify tourist visa processes starting in 2024, cutting bureaucratic steps and embassy visits.

The Israeli government has officially announced the launch of its e-Visa and ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to ease entry for foreign tourists into the country. This long-awaited measure will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

What’s the Difference Between the e-Visa and ETA in Israel?

The e-Visa is an electronic document allowing travelers to apply for entry permission to Israel without visiting embassies. The ETA, by contrast, is an electronic travel authorization required for certain nationalities that are otherwise visa-exempt. Both solutions will significantly streamline visa applications for foreign tourists, who will be able to complete the process online in 2024.

How Will the Online Process Work?

  • Travelers intending to visit Israel must complete an online application.

  • Required documents such as a passport, passport photo, and any other supporting evidence must be uploaded.

  • Once documents are verified, travelers will receive their e-Visa or ETA via email.

The system promises even greater accessibility and convenience, allowing foreign visitors to avoid in-person embassy visits entirely.

Who Needs an Israel e-Visa or ETA?

The full list of affected countries has not yet been released, although it is expected to include a broad range of nationalities. Some visa-exempt travelers—such as U.S. and Canadian citizens—will still need to obtain an ETA prior to travel, as is already required in many destinations.

The Israeli government’s official announcement on the e-Visa and ETA underscores its commitment to making entry into Israel faster and simpler. Eyal Siso, Director General of the Population and Immigration Authority, described the move as a true «revolution», saying that it will greatly relieve the administrative burden on foreign visitors as they prepare for their trip.
