Kenya Launches Mobile App to Simplify ETA Travel Authorization Requests
Kenya introduces a dedicated mobile app for faster Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) processing, making pre-travel formalities seamless and user-friendly for visitors.
As of 1 January 2024, the Kenyan government has implemented a new electronic travel authorization system called the ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) following its visa exemption announcement. Under this system, anyone planning to visit Kenya must secure an ETA prior to departure. To streamline the process, the country has just launched a dedicated mobile app enabling travelers to manage this requirement quickly and easily.
What is the Kenya ETA?
The ETA is an electronic authorization allowing stays of up to 90 days in Kenya. It applies to all nationalities except for six countries—Burundi🇧🇮, DR Congo🇨🇩, Rwanda🇷🇼, South Sudan🇸🇸, Tanzania🇹🇿, and Uganda🇺🇬. Minors under 16 must also submit an individual ETA application.
Applicants are required to provide the following information and documents:
Full name, date of birth;
Passport number and expiry date;
Email address and phone number;
Residential address;
Country of residence;
Occupation;
Purpose of visit;
Flight information.
The ETA fee is 30 USD (€26) for the standard version, or 50 USD (€43.34) for the premium option. Fees via the app remain consistent with these rates.
Meet the Kenya eTA Mobile App
To simplify ETA applications, the Kenyan government has released the Kenya eTA mobile app — currently available exclusively on the Google Play Store. An iOS version is expected to follow, broadening access for all travelers.
The officially endorsed app offers multiple benefits:
A user-friendly interface for completing the online form;
Direct upload of required documents (ID photo, passport copy, accommodation proof, etc.);
Real-time application status tracking;
Instant receipt of approval and final ETA document within the app.

All data transmitted through the app is encrypted and used solely for the ETA process. Personal information is not shared with third parties unless users opt into additional communications.
Mobile Travel Authorization Apps Gain Global Momentum
The launch of the Kenya eTA app reflects a growing international trend toward simplified, digital visa and travel authorization procedures. Several other countries have introduced similar systems, including:
The U.S. ESTA, designed for travelers to the United States;
These tools greatly ease the traveler experience by accelerating administrative processes and reducing reliance on paper-based systems and in-person embassy or consulate visits—thereby lowering the overall environmental footprint of travel.
