Morocco among 13 new countries eligible for Canada’s eTA program

Canada expands its electronic Travel Authorization program to include Morocco and 12 other nations, streamlining visa-free travel for tourism and business.

Passport holders from 13 countries are now eligible to apply for Canada’s electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), including Morocco, making it easier and faster for eligible travelers to enter the North American country.

The eTA is an online entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air. It is electronically linked to the traveler’s passport and automates the screening process before departure, reducing administrative hurdles for eligible visitors and strengthening bilateral ties.

Half of the newly eligible nationalities are from the Caribbean, joining other countries including Panama, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Argentina, Seychelles, Thailand and the Philippines.

Travellers from these nations—who previously required a visitor visa—now qualify for an eTA if they:

  • currently hold a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa; or

  • have held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years,

Note: This facility only applies when arriving by air. Entry by land or sea still requires a valid visa.

eTA eligibility requirements

To qualify for an eTA, travellers must:

  • hold a valid passport;

  • travel to Canada by air;

  • intend a stay of up to six months for tourism, business, transit or visiting family;

  • be in good health and have no serious criminal convictions.

Health requirements

Canada currently imposes no health restrictions—such as quarantine or medical testing—for eTA applicants.

How this benefits Morocco–Canada relations

Adding Morocco to the eTA list marks a significant step in deepening ties between the two countries. It will simplify travel for tourists, businesspeople and cultural exchange, improving people-to-people links and supporting economic and educational exchanges.

Morocco’s inclusion forms part of Canada’s broader strategy to expand international partnerships, especially in North Africa. Over recent years the countries have signed multiple agreements covering education, trade, security and culture.
