Less than two weeks after suspending tourist visa applications, the Myanmar government has announced the resumption of the eVisa service on 22 April 2025. The move follows the resolution of technical server issues caused by a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on 28 March 2025.

Myanmar authorities
Business visas were never suspended, unlike tourist visas, which were interrupted on 3 April 2025. Myanmar’s swift restoration of this essential service reflects the country’s resilience amid economic challenges and earthquake damage.
Conditions for obtaining a Myanmar tourist visa
Foreign travelers can now apply for a tourist eVisa via the official Myanmar eVisa portal, streamlining the process.
Service fee: $50 for a 28-day stay.
Required documents:
A passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of entry.
A recent color passport-style photo (4.6 cm × 3.8 cm, taken within the last three months).
Proof of return ticket (or travel plan if arriving via the Kawthaung land border).
Confirmation of hotel or boat accommodation (tourists must stay in licensed establishments).
Payment accepted via Visa, MasterCard, or JCB.
The eVisa is available to nationals of 100 countries. Travelers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao are also eligible. Travelers using cruise ships should apply for a "pre-arranged visa" through their cruise line instead; the eVisa is not valid for cruise arrivals.
eVisa processing and entry timeline
Upon submission and payment, applicants receive a confirmation email. Processing typically takes three business days. The application fee is non-refundable. The eVisa approval letter is valid for 90 days from the date of issue; entry will be denied if this period elapses.
Due to earthquake damage in the Mandalay region and ongoing civil conflict, some areas remain off-limits to foreign travelers. Travelers should check the official government website for up-to-date guidance and restrictions before travel.
