Nigeria to Launch e-Visa App on March 1, 2025: Here’s What Travelers Need to Know
Nigeria is set to streamline visa applications with a new mobile app launching March 1, 2025, promising faster e-Visa processing including biometric fees. Discover eligibility, costs, and who can apply.
Nigeria is modernizing its visa application process with the launch of a new mobile application for e-Visas. Designed to simplify visa acquisition for international visitors, the platform aims to make the experience faster and more intuitive.
Streamlined Visa Application Process
Announced by Nigeria’s Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the government is prioritizing smoother visa procedures—especially for short-term visits. The upcoming "Nigeria eVisa App" will allow travelers to submit all required documents, pay visa fees online, and track their application in real time—all from their smartphones.

Current Visa Landscape in Nigeria
Currently, travelers to Nigeria must obtain a visa via an embassy or through the existing e-Visa system, which includes visa on arrival. However, the country has faced criticism over rising biometric collection fees for arrivals, which increased from $90 to $170 in October 2023. With an added visa fee and service charge, the total cost for an e-Visa for arrivals reaches $278 for European travelers.
The new Nigeria eVisa App seeks to transform the visa process—particularly for short-term visitors such as artists, athletes, and tourists. The government aims to scale its processes and infrastructure in line with global advancements, without compromising national security.
Who Can Apply for Nigeria’s e-Visa?
The e-Visa is valid for short-term visits of up to 90 days and requires advance approval through the electronic Travel Authorization Letter (eTAL). While African nationals may use eTAL for tourism or business travel, citizens of other countries—including those in Europe—can only apply for business eTAL/e-Visa purposes.
Visa and biometric service fees vary by citizenship. Many nationalities are eligible for Nigeria’s business e-Visa, adding transparency and convenience to travel preparations.
