Namibia to End Visa-Exempt Status for Multiple Nationalities in 2025

Namibia will introduce a new e-visa platform on April 1, 2025, alongside a visa-on-arrival system, while removing visa-free access for 33 countries as part of a reciprocal policy.

Namibia is poised to launch its new electronic visa system following reports of malfunctions in its existing online visa framework. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security (MHAISS) has refuted these claims, clarifying that the system had not yet been deployed. A fully functional electronic visa application portal and visa-on-arrival process are now slated to go live on April 1, 2025.

The new e-visa and visa-on-arrival application system will launch simultaneously. This user-friendly platform lets travelers apply from home, smoothing the entry process and enhancing efficiency.

Introduction of Reciprocity-Based Visa Requirements

From April 1, 2025, citizens of 33 countries that currently require visas from Namibian travelers will themselves need visas to enter Namibia. This reciprocal measure aims to ensure fair treatment for Namibian travelers and strengthen the country’s diplomatic stance.

How the New Visa Process Works

The updated system introduces an electronic visa application enabling travelers to secure an electronic travel authorization prior to departure. Applicants can submit requests via the official MHAISS portal, streamlining the entry process.

Visa fees are set at 1,600 Namibian dollars (about €80). Visas will be issued at select airports and land border crossings. Travelers from eligible countries may also obtain visas on arrival. Nationals of countries not covered by e-visa or visa-on-arrival options can still apply through an embassy.

End of Visa Exemption for 33 Countries

The following list includes the 33 countries whose citizens will require visas to enter Namibia starting April 1, 2025:
Germany, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Belarus, Canada, Denmark, Spain, United States, Finland, France, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Moldova, Norway, New Zealand, Uzbekistan, Netherlands, Portugal, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine.

The MHAISS urges the public and travelers to await the rollout patiently.
