1 option for Namibia

Choose the visa that fits your trip. Fully online process, real-time tracking.

Since 1 April 2025, Namibia has made an e-Visa mandatory for many nationalities previously exempt, including French, Belgian, Swiss, Canadian and American citizens. This genuine electronic visa — obtained entirely online before departure — replaces all consular formalities on arrival and covers tourist, professional or family stays of a standard duration of 30 days. The application process takes place on the official Namibian portal, available in English only; the procedure has several technical particularities that are worth knowing to avoid delays.

01 · The essentials

Namibia e-Visa: an official electronic visa since 1 April 2025

100% online application

The e-Visa is obtained entirely on the official Namibian portal, with no consular visit required, regardless of the purpose of stay.

Passport valid 6 months

The passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the planned date of entry into Namibia and must have a minimum of 2 blank pages.

Medium complexity

The official portal is in English only, requires the creation of an account and has technical particularities (payment to be found manually, reported bugs).

Example of an official Namibia e-Visa document
The Namibia e-Visa is issued as an official document to be presented upon entry into the territory.

Namibia introduced, on 1 April 2025, a mandatory visa regime based on the principle of diplomatic reciprocity. Several countries not granting exemptions to Namibian nationals, the Namibian government ended the exemption agreements that had until then benefited many Western nationalities.

The required document is an e-Visa — a genuine electronic visa in the legal sense — and not a simple travel authorisation or ETA. It must be obtained before departure, via the official Namibian portal, and is the mandatory document for entering the territory, whether by air, land or sea.

Once approved, the e-Visa serves as an official entry document: holders are not required to complete the arrival form normally required of other travellers, which noticeably speeds up immigration clearance.

Important: e-Visa ≠ travel authorisation

The Namibian e-Visa is a genuine electronic visa, not a travel authorisation of the ETA or ESTA type. It must appear as a valid document linked to your passport, and not simply as an approval letter or proof of payment. Without an actually issued e-Visa, entry into Namibia may be refused.

02 · Eligibility

Who needs to obtain an e-Visa? Who is exempt?

Since 1 April 2025, French, Belgian, Swiss, Canadian, American nationals and many other nationalities are subject to the visa requirement to enter Namibia. The list of exempt countries is now restricted to nationalities with which Namibia maintains a reciprocity agreement.

The following nationalities remain exempt from a visa for Namibia: Angola, Botswana, Brazil, Cuba, Eswatini, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Macao (China), Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Russian Federation, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uzbekistan, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

If your nationality does not appear on this exemption list, you must obtain an e-Visa before your departure. Each traveller — adult or child — must have their own e-Visa; it is not possible to include a child in a parent's application.

French, Belgian and Swiss nationals

Subject to the visa requirement since 1 April 2025. An e-Visa must be obtained before departure for any purpose of stay: tourism, business, family visit, event, conference or medical.

Canadian and American nationals

Also affected by the 1 April 2025 reform. The e-Visa is obtained exclusively online on the official Namibian portal, in English, before any travel.

Children and minors

Each child must have their own e-Visa. Children under 6 years old are exempt from consular fees but are still required to hold a valid visa.

Cruise passengers

A daily visa of 300 N$ (≈ 16 €) is available for cruise passengers. The exact conditions of obtaining it depend on the Namibian port of call concerned.

Visa on arrival: a less reliable option

A visa on arrival (VoA) remains theoretically possible for certain nationalities at certain entry points. However, this procedure involves completing an arrival form on the spot, paying for a temporary visa and may result in queues, delays or refusal of entry. The e-Visa obtained before departure is the recommended choice to guarantee hassle-free admission.

03 · Required documents

Which documents should you prepare for your e-Visa application?

To submit a Namibian e-Visa application, you must gather a set of supporting documents whose formats are strict. Any document that does not comply with the required technical specifications — particularly in terms of resolution, file size or format — is likely to be rejected automatically, delaying the issuance of your visa.

The official portal is in English only and requires the creation of an account. It is advisable to gather all your documents before starting to fill in the form to avoid any interruption of the process.

Documents to provide for the application
  • Valid passportMinimum validity of 6 months after the planned date of entry into Namibia. The passport must have at least 2 blank pages. Documents must be scanned with sufficient resolution and in the exact format required by the portal.
  • Recent identity photoFront-facing photo, white background, format compliant with the Namibian portal specifications. A non-compliant photo will result in the application being rejected.
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stayRecent bank statement or other supporting document demonstrating that you have the necessary resources to finance your stay in Namibia.
  • Accommodation bookingConfirmation of a hotel, camp, lodge or private host reservation in Namibia.
  • Exit ticket from the territoryReturn ticket or ticket to your next destination, proving your intention to leave Namibia at the end of your stay.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (if applicable)Mandatory if you are arriving from a country or area at risk of yellow fever. This certificate must be in international format (Yellow Card).
  • Travel insurance (recommended)Not mandatory for obtaining the visa, but strongly recommended to cover potential medical costs or a repatriation situation in Namibia.
Pay attention to document formats

The official Namibian portal requires specific file formats and resolutions for each supporting document. A document submitted in the wrong format — file too large, insufficient resolution or unaccepted extension — is automatically rejected. It is recommended to prepare your scans in advance, strictly following the technical instructions on the form.

04 · The procedure

How to obtain your Namibian e-Visa, step by step

The e-Visa application is conducted entirely online, on the official Namibian government portal. The procedure is fully digital: no visit to the embassy is required. However, the process has several important technical specificities to be aware of before you begin.

Unlike other e-Visa systems, the Namibian portal requires the creation of an account before an application can be submitted. Furthermore, the payment page is not directly accessible following the application form: it must be located manually in your personal account, which may surprise unprepared applicants.

  1. 1
Creating an account on the Namibian portal

Go to the official Namibian portal (in English). Create your account with a valid email address. This step is mandatory before any visa application.

  2. 2
    Completing the application form

Complete the online form with your personal information, details of your stay (dates, purpose, accommodation) and your passport information. The form is only available in English. Enter each piece of information carefully: any inconsistency may result in rejection.

  3. 3
    Uploading supporting documents

Upload all required documents (identity photo, passport scan, accommodation booking, exit ticket, proof of funds, vaccination certificate if applicable) in the formats and resolutions required by the portal. Non-compliant documents are automatically rejected.

  4. 4
    Payment of consular fees

Payment is not made directly following the form. You must find the payment page in your personal account (dashboard). Pay the consular fees according to your age and nationality: 1 600 N$ for a non-African adult, 1 200 N$ for an African adult, reduced rate for children aged 6 to 11, free for children under 6.

  5. 5
    Processing by the Namibian authorities

Your file is transmitted to the Namibian authorities for processing. The portal may experience slowdowns or temporary outages: if you do not receive quick confirmation, check your personal account and your inbox.

  6. 6
    Receipt of the approved e-Visa

Once your application is validated, you will receive your e-Visa by email. This official document must be presented at your point of entry into Namibia. As an e-Visa holder, you do not need to complete the usual arrival form.

Interface of the official Namibia e-Visa portal

The official Namibian portal is only available in English, which may require particular attention when filling in forms. If English is not your main language, take the time to translate the field labels before entering your information.

Technical bugs have been reported by users: slowdowns, freezing pages, difficulties finding the payment section. In case of a technical problem, it is advisable to clear the browser cache, try a different browser or try again at a different time.

Make sure to keep a printed copy of your e-Visa in your hand luggage. In the event of a problem with the digital document at the border, the printed copy serves as your reference document.

Tip for the Namibian portal

The Namibian e-Visa application website may experience slowdowns or temporary outages. Avoid submitting your application at the last minute: allow at least several working days before your departure date. If the payment page does not appear after the form, go to your personal account (account dashboard) to find it.

05 · Validity & entry points

Visa duration, extension and access to Namibian territory

Entry points in Namibia accepting the e-Visa
The e-Visa is accepted at the main international airports and Namibian border posts.

The Namibian e-Visa is generally valid for 30 days from the date of entry, with the possibility of multiple entries. You can therefore leave and return to Namibia during the validity period without having to apply for a new visa.

For certain travellers arriving by air, a validity of up to 90 days is sometimes granted. This extension remains however at the discretion of the immigration officer at the border and is not a guarantee. The total duration granted per year is also determined at the sole discretion of the Namibian immigration services.

If a stay extension is needed, it is possible to contact one of the competent regional Namibian offices, particularly in Windhoek, Walvis Bay or Keetmanshoop. If you arrive near the end of the validity period, the visa will only be issued for the remaining days.

The e-Visa is accepted at the majority of Namibian entry points, notably the international airports of Windhoek Hosea Kutako, Walvis Bay, Eros and Ondangwa, as well as at several land border posts and seaports. e-Visa holders do not need to complete the arrival form normally requested of other travellers: the e-Visa serves directly as an official entry document, speeding up immigration clearance.

Stay beyond the authorised period

Remaining in Namibia beyond the duration indicated on your e-Visa without having obtained an extension from the competent regional offices constitutes a violation of Namibian immigration rules. If necessary, initiate extension procedures before your visa expires, by contacting the offices in Windhoek, Walvis Bay or Keetmanshoop.

06 · Before you leave

Checklist and practical tips for preparing your trip to Namibia

Obtaining the e-Visa is a central step in the preparation, but it is part of a set of formalities to be anticipated before leaving for Namibia. A country of immense wilderness, majestic red dunes and exceptional wildlife, Namibia deserves careful preparation to ensure the trip goes smoothly.

Here are the key points to check and prepare in advance, beyond your e-Visa.

Documents and formalities to prepare before departure
  • Approved and printed e-VisaKeep a paper copy of your e-Visa in your hand luggage. Check that the passport number on the visa corresponds exactly to your physical passport.
  • Passport valid 6 months after your entry into NamibiaCheck the expiry date well before your departure. The passport must have at least 2 blank pages available for immigration stamps.
  • Exit ticket from the territoryKeep your return ticket or your ticket to your next destination: you may be required to present it at the Namibian border.
  • Accommodation bookingA booking confirmation (hotel, lodge, camp or private accommodation) may be requested upon your arrival.
  • Proof of sufficient fundsBring a recent bank statement or other proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of your stay.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (if applicable)Essential if you are arriving from a yellow fever risk area. This international certificate (Yellow Card) may be required at the border.
  • Travel insuranceStrongly recommended to cover medical costs, hospitalisation or possible repatriation. Healthcare costs abroad can be significant.
  • International driving licenceIf you plan to rent a vehicle in Namibia to explore the country (very common practice for safaris and nature parks), an international driving licence is generally required in addition to your national licence.
Digital copies of your documents

Save a digital copy of your passport, e-Visa and bookings in a secure online storage space or send them to yourself by email. In case of loss of the originals, this facilitates procedures with the consular authorities.

Local currency: the Namibian dollar

The official currency is the Namibian dollar (N$), at a fixed rate with the South African rand. The rand is accepted in most Namibian shops. Major cities have ATMs, but rural areas and nature parks may not.

Yellow fever vaccination: caution if in transit

If your travel itinerary includes a transit through a country classified as a yellow fever risk area, carry your Yellow vaccination Card. This document may be checked upon your arrival in Namibia.

Visa extension on arrival

If your stay needs to be extended beyond the initial duration of your e-Visa, contact one of the competent Namibian regional offices (Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Keetmanshoop) before it expires. Do not wait until the last minute.

Key takeaways

Since 1 April 2025, an official e-Visa — a genuine electronic visa, not a travel authorisation — is mandatory for entry into Namibia for French, Belgian, Swiss, Canadian and American nationals, among others. It is obtained exclusively online, on an English-language portal that requires the creation of an account and whose payment page must be located manually in the personal account. The standard validity is 30 days multi-entry; an extension of up to 90 days is possible but not guaranteed. Consular fees amount to 1 600 N$ (≈ 83 €) for a non-African adult, with reduced rates for children and an exemption for children under 6. Anticipate your application, comply with the required document formats and keep a paper copy of your e-Visa for entry into Namibian territory.
