The Angolan government has considerably simplified its immigration policy in order to boost tourism and trade, but the rules differ from country to country. strictly according to the reason for your stay: Tourism or Business. Understanding this distinction is the first - and most important - step in your preparation, as it determines whether or not you need to complete an online procedure before departure.

Entry is mainly by air via the’Luanda international airport (Aeroporto Internacional Dr. António Agostinho Neto) for travelers using the pre-authorization system. Depending on your situation, you may benefit from an automatic exemption, or be required to complete an electronic pre-registration (e-Visa) before departure. In practical terms, the Angolan system is based on two very distinct statuses.

Visa exemption (Tourism)

Automatically granted to nationals of 98 countries eligible for stays tourism only. It authorizes a maximum stay of 30 days per entry, within the limit of 90 days a year. No online procedure is required: simply present your passport and the usual supporting documents on arrival.

Angola grants total visa exemption for tourist stays of less than 30 days per entry (up to a limit of 90 days per year) to nationals of the following 98 countries:

e-Visa pre-authorization

Mandatory before departure for’business (Business), regardless of nationality, as well as for non-exempt nationalities traveling for tourism. The application is made online (in English) on the official portal to obtain the necessary approval for boarding.

This includes French, Belgian, Canadian, Swiss and American citizens, as well as all other nationalities exempted for tourism. Tourist visa exemption never works for business reasons Meetings, negotiations, contract signatures, prospecting, technical services, training courses, congresses... Visa rates and types

Validity, length of stay and multiple entries

The validity mechanism of the Angolan e-Visa deserves a detailed explanation, as it combines several distinct concepts:

• Pre-authorization utilization period : Once your e-Visa has been issued, you must complete your first border crossing within 60 days. Once this period has elapsed without you having entered the country, the pre-authorization becomes null and void and a new application is required.
• Authorized length of stay : each time you enter the country, your visa authorizes you to stay up to 30 days. The exact duration granted by immigration officials is generally based on the dates of your return ticket and hotel reservation.
• Multiple inputs : the visa is systematically granted on a multiple-entry basis, allowing you to leave and return to Angola several times during its total period of validity (up to 120 days after issue, within the annual quota).
• Prolongation : tourist visas can be extended only once for an additional 30 days, to be made with the SME in Luanda before the initial visa expires.

Lead times

The Angolan Migration Service's online file review process generally takes two weeks. up to 3 working days. However, this timeframe is never guaranteed: in busy periods, if a file is incomplete or if additional checks are required, it may be longer. • Recent passport photo : on white background, standard format. Specifications: JPEG format, width from 381 to 571 pixels, height from 496 to 744 pixels, maximum size 200 Kb.
• Copy of airline ticket : reservation of a round-trip ticket confirming your entry and exit dates.
• Proof of resources : proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay.
• Proof of accommodation : invitation letter and/or hotel booking confirmation, with full contact details of the host or company.
• Yellow fever vaccination certificate : mandatory for all travelers (see dedicated section below).

Documents specific to the Business visa

If you're traveling for business, your e-Visa application must include, in addition to the usual documents, supporting documents clearly establishing the nature and scope of your mission. In particular, prepare :

• A letter of invitation from the Angolan company specifying the purpose of the visit (meetings, negotiations, technical services, training, etc.), its duration, and the full contact details and legal references of the host company.
• A letter from your employer or your own company, on headed paper, attesting to your position and confirming the business purpose of the trip.
• Receipts from the host company in Angola: business registration, address and contact person responsible for your stay.

These elements must be perfectly consistent with each other and with the dates of your ticket: the slightest contradiction between the letter of invitation, the declared accommodation and the dates of travel may result in rejection or further questions from the migration authorities.

Common mistakes made by our customers

Every year, many travelers find their plans compromised for reasons that are perfectly avoidable. Here are the most common pitfalls identified by our team in discussions with travelers:

• Confusing tourist exemption with business authorization. This is by far the biggest mistake. A national exempted for tourism believes he can go to a business meeting without any formalities: he will be blocked at boarding or turned back. The real reason for the trip always takes precedence over mere nationality.
• Neglect technical file specifications. A photo of just a few megabytes, a color copy of a passport or a file outside the required dimensions are systematically rejected by the portal. These unintuitive standards are the second most common reason why unaccompanied applications fail.
• Forget the yellow fever certificate. Many people think it's just a recommendation. But it's compulsory, physically checked, and must be taken at least 10 days before the trip: you can't be vaccinated the day before departure.
