Namibia Introduces e-Visa for 33 Nationalities as of April 1, 2025

Starting April 1, 2025, Namibia requires a visa for citizens of 33 countries, including several European and Western nations, via a new online e-Visa system. Fees range from 600 N$ to 1,600 N$, with validity for 30 days.

Effective April 1, 2025, Namibia will require visas for citizens of 33 countries, including several European and Western nations, under its reciprocal visa policy. Applications must be submitted through a new online e-Visa system. Fees are set at 1,600 N$ (about €82) for non-African nationals. Visas are valid for 30 days with multiple entries, though visas on arrival remain available.

Namibia has reassessed its visa-free entry agreements with countries deemed "non-reciprocal," where Namibian citizens are required to obtain a visa while their nationals could enter visa-free. The government now requires visas for tourists from 33 countries, including France, Belgium, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Why the new e-Visa is recommended

To streamline the process, Namibia launched its e-Visa platform on March 3, 2025. Over 10,000 electronic visas have already been approved. The fully digital process via the official portal allows travelers from 90 countries—tourists and business visitors—to reduce wait times and simplify application procedures.

Visa fees vary by nationality and age. For travelers aged 12 and older from non-African countries, the cost is 1,600 N$ (about €82); for African nationals, it’s 1,200 N$ (about €62). Children aged 6 to 11 pay 800 N$ (about €41) or 600 N$ (about €31), respectively. Those under 6 are exempt. The visa allows stays of up to 30 days from the intended arrival date, with multiple entries. Cruise passengers docking at Walvis Bay or Lüderitz must also pay a daily fee of 300 N$ (about €16).

Which countries are affected?

The 33 nationalities now requiring a Namibian visa are: Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Belarus, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Moldova, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Uzbekistan.

The visa on arrival remains available

In addition to the e-Visa, Namibia continues to offer visas on arrival at major entry points—but officials strongly recommend applying online. Entry points differ depending on whether you hold an e-Visa or an on-arrival visa, so travelers are advised to plan ahead and verify permitted access points accordingly.
